Connecting Champions
Frequently Asked Questions
(1) How are mentors vetted?
All mentors undergo a rigorous eligibility process including an application, interview, reference check, and state required background checks.
(2) Is a parent involved in mentor visits, or what are the monitoring provisions in place?
A Connecting Champions Employee is on every single video meeting between your child and his or her mentor, so your child will never be alone. We also ask that a parent or guardian is at least in the general area the video chat is taking place, or on the video call as well.
(3) Are there any programming opportunities for siblings?
Although the mentor experience is specifically for the child or young adult fighting cancer, oftentimes siblings are included on the virtual calls, with the activity kits, and are always welcome to participate in our different club meetings (STEM club, art club, cooking club, etc.).
(4) Is there an age cut-off and does my child have to be in active treatment?
We are happy to find a mentor for any child or young adult anywhere on their cancer journey, from diagnosis into survivorship! If you feel yourself or child could benefit from a friendship, we are here to help!
