CCChampions is a nonprofit that helps kids with cancer by asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
We then find an inspirational role model who can be a friend through all the transitions of the cancer journey.
Job Description:
The Friendship Champion facilitates every step of each child’s friendship throughout the cancer journey (meeting newly diagnosed children, understanding their developmental & social needs, matching the child with a role model, and facilitating weekly friendship moments). He or she is the face of the organization for the child, family, & role model. A typical week in the job includes working in the hospital, communicating with parents & role models daily via text/call/email, scheduling event logistics, accompanying the child at weekly hospital visits, and helping further develop the program. The Friendship Champion manages 25 friendships at a time and will report to the Executive Director and Head Friendship Champions. The position begins as we launch in our second city in 2018. Salary will be based upon strength of qualifications.

Responsibilities:
- Hours — 40 hours per week (including approximately two evenings or weekend days per month)
- Friendships — Facilitate all steps of 25 friendships at a time (Hospital Outreach, Matching Process, Induction Ceremony, Weekly Developmental Moments, Role Model Training, Alumni Program, etc.)
- Communication — Interact directly with children, families, & role models every day
- Travel — Travel regularly to accompany each child to his/her interaction with the role model
- Logistics — Manage significant logistical challenges (difficult family/role model schedules)
- Recruitment — Recruit new children & families at Children’s Hospital
- Leadership — Develop new initiatives to continually improve the Friendships Program
- Hierarchy — Report regularly to the Executive Director & Head Friendships Champion; Help manage Friendship Assistant intern
- Misc. — Assist with other activities non-specific to the position (fundraising, strategy, etc.)
Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor's degree
- Very significant experience working with children & families (teaching, hospital, social work, etc.)
- Great “people person” - fun, creative, patient, personable, and a good listener
- Background succeeding both independently & in teams
- Proficient in Word/Excel/Powerpoint, Facebook/Twitter, & Phone/Texting
- Ability to pass a background check
