A Brief History of the March to Friendship
Every year, CCChampions hosts the March to Friendship, a fundraiser inspired by people who wanted to channel the energy of March Madness for a good cause. What started as "The Charitable Bracket Competition," has now grown into something even bigger.
"The Charitable Bracket Competition" began in 2013, with just a few teams of friends and family members donating the money they would have used as their buy-in to another March Madness bracket pool to help the kids in CCChampions instead. Not wanting to miss out on the chance to show off their basketball knowledge during the NCAA Tournament, their donations got them access to a CCChampions bracket pool.
Since then, non-basketball fans have joined the March to Friendship too. Many people still host their basketball bracket pools with CCChampions, while many others form general fundraising teams instead. Together, all of us are helping CCChampions achieve its goal of sponsoring friendship moments for every single newly diagnosed kid in 2017!
By working together, families, friends, schools, and companies from across the country help support friendship moments for newly diagnosed kids in Pittsburgh. Every $250 that a team pools together sponsors a local child cancer patient to meet his or her inspirational role model.
In 2017 we need to create friendships for more kids than ever. CCChampions is beginning national expansion next year and our March to Friendship donors will be an essential part of that narrative. Throughout the year we will send updates of the friendship you helped create.
