Volunteers are the heart of our organization
UPDATE: In light of COVID-19, we have launched a virtual friendships program for children with cancer so they and their family don't have to go through this fight alone.

We request volunteers commit to a minimum of six months, with at least monthly virtual visits. Our volunteering schedule is typically flexible. A member of our program staff will be present at every virtual visit, and we require clearances and references. Please fill out the volunteer form below!

Forgive us for any information lower on this page that is currently irrelevant due to COVID-19.

The following information may reference our in-person volunteer program, which is currently suspended due to COVID-19

Instead of the hospital being a place solely for pricks, prods, procedures, and sickness, the children in Connecting Champions know that when they are in the hospital, their mentor will be waiting there just for them.

Visits can be anything from joining a train conductor on the tracks in between rounds of treatment to playing Pokemon during a long stay at the hospital. Mentors typically visit the child from once a week to every couple of months.

Our friendships are built to help kids overcome the serious developmental and social challenges they’re facing because of the disease. We’ve seen our families cope better, our young ones make their first friends, and our teens overcome depression.

At a time when development typically stops, a Connecting Champions friendship allows kids with cancer to continue to grow, and feel like kids again.

Volunteer Requirements
We require all volunteers to be at least 20 years old or sophomores in college.

(Steps to becoming approved as a volunteer)

1. Fill out online volunteer application

2. Send documentation of clearances/vaccinations to Volunteering@connectingchampions.org (if you do not have them yet, email us and we will help you get them)

3. Connecting Champions staff reaches out to your references

4. 30 min. interview with Connecting Champions staff (we will reach out to find a time)
